Where Do I Start?

I've got so much to share about this weekend. I guess I'd better start first things first-- my daughter's graduation. We are fortunate to have a nice graduation ceremony every year for the homeschoolers in our area. This year 34 homeschool students participated in the ceremony which included all the usual graduation trappings-- caps and gowns and speeches, mobs of family and friends, etc.

A few extra things made the graduation even more meaningful. First of all, the program that was handed out included a nice 1-2 paragraph bio about each student. It was fun to read about these very accomplished kids and all the interesting things they were able to do during their high school careers. And second, the parents were asked to each write a 500 word blip about their own child to be read as the graduate walked across the stage to get their diploma. Parents shared fun and neat things about the kids, and it really made the whole ceremony very personal and special.

Here's our whole crew afterwards-- for some reason I'm having trouble getting the picture to upload clearly. I'l try again later today. I will also be sharing about the Idaho Bloggirls get-together-- what a party!

Soooo neat that there's a ceremony for homeschooled graduates, and that it is so personalized (unlike my own public high school graduation of 380 students!)

It seems that you're doing homeschooling the right way. I'm interested in knowing if you've always homeschooled your kids or if it's something you started in recent years. As a public school teacher, I see a lot of failed homeschoolers come into our school each year, so it makes me happy to see someone that actually takes it seriously and succeeds.

I love that the parents write a little ditty about their child. What a neat personal touch. Congratulations!
