Works For Me Wednesday

My idea for the week has to do with vacation time. We keep a markerboard mounted on the wall in our travel trailer. When we're on a trip, every day someone draws something related to what we did that day. My husband tends to do the most drawing, since he really gets into it. But we encourage everyone to add to the board. Here's what our board looked like at the end of our vacation a couple years ago.

You maybe be able to see from the artwork that we went to the Oregon coast. We saw racoons at one of the campgrounds, visited the Oregon Coast Aquarium, and saw a lighthouse. Words on the side note that one of the kids called seagulls 'eagles', and another called acorns 'popcorn'. Fun memories.

Last year we added even more to this tradition by turning on the camcorder at the end of the trip and having everyone describe what they drew on the board and why. If you don't happen to have a handy place for a markerboard while traveling, a large sketch pad would serve the same purpose and take very little room in your car on a trip.

Works for me!

Oops hubby had used my laptop last night in the hotel and I had forgotten to re sign in so then had to delete his post.

Anyway what a great idea. We are in Disney currently and besides taking tons of pics I have been trying to talk to the kids each night and write down their reactions. I think drawing for them would be so great.

What a fun idea! I hear of a family who gave up trying to keep one of their children from writing on the walls, so they assigned one wall that anyone could write on. They loved that wall and all the resulting artwork (I think they had 9 kids) so much that when they rented out their home while they were temporarily relocated, they stipulated in the contract that that particular wall was not to be touched!

This is an amazing idea! ABC Momma has a great idea to take a picture for a scrapbook page...but you could also refer to this for any journalling to go with the photos you take. Me...I take photos and I totally forget what they are about, LOL!

What a cute idea! I love that you are making memories by it. It is fun to see what their little minds remember. We are going to Southern Utah in a week and we are going to do this!

This is a great idea. We'll be taking a long, international trip this summer and you've inspired me to have my girls keep a 'trip journal.'

Great idea! You must have a BIG travel trailer!

We homeschool six and don't take many "vacations". We just move all over for contracts: Wisconsin, Texas, Puerto Rico, California, and soon to move on to who knows?

I had the children journal and draw what they'd seen in PR for school (couldn't fit all the books in the luggage).
