Twenty years ago... eek!

My sisters are planning a bash this summer to celebrate some big anniversaries in our family, including John's and my 20th. My sister asked me to scan one of our wedding pictures for the invitations. I thought y'all might like to see it too. Click on it if you want the big version. Can you believe how young we were? Our parents must have been terrified for us!

I've been reading you for a while - connected through my niece Sarah, In The Midst of It. I love your sites and I love this gorgeous photo. You both do look young but my goodness, so happy.

Here is the question...would you let your daughter get married so young? I got married at 20, and wouldn't let Charley girl do that!
Not that I regret getting married, or that I don't love my husband, but it was just SOOOO young.

Brooke, How I'd feel about my own daughter marrying at 19 would depend a lot on how I felt about the guy.

But thinking back to my husband and myself then-- even if our folks had pitched a fit about it, we still would have gotten married. We were sure, and we were ready, and we were determined to do it.

I think the best thing a parent can do in a situation like that where the kids have made a firm decision, is to pray and be their most ardent cheering section.

It has to be a little breath-taking, though...I have a lot more sympathy for my folks now than I did then! LOL

Aw! Too sweet!

When I think about how young we were when we got married I also feel like, "Our poor parents! They must have been terrified!"

I Love it. So cute!

Funny how when we get married we never think of ourselves as young. But then looking back...

Happy Anniversary! You do look young!
Funny, my last posts have been about our early years. We got married at 18 and it seems very young. We're having our 39th anniversary on June 17.
May you have the blessing of continued years of happiness together :-)

GREAT picture, you guys were awesome! (What a handsome guy!)

As you know we got married young--I was 20 and he was 21. We've been married just short of four years now and I love being married young!

We were married in '86 too! Our 20th is this December.

We were very young too--we both had one semester of college left! I think it was one of the smartest things we did, though, to not wait around for a long engagement--we got married and got started on our life together.

Such a sweet picture...

Great photo. You two look smugly happy. Perhaps you had intimations of the future -- ha ha, foolish ordinary mortals! We will have many children and outparent you all!

I mentioned you in a post a couple days ago. Hope it makes you smile.

Ha ha, Avery! You made the correction mid-chuckle.

Mary...Happy Anniversary! I'm with cmommy in asking, "What's in the glass?"

I also was 20 when I married. You're so wise to say it really depends on the child and the fiance. No regrets here.

Avery-- I suppose orange juice punch would be too utterly boring to be imagined. (yup, I'm bored too.)

But let me share 2 key facts:

--I'm a preacher's kid.

--We got married so young that we weren't yet legal to drink.

Screwdrivers, hah!

(Sorry to disappoint, the exciting stuff in my life happens later...)

The was no alcohol at my wedding either - to the disappointment of many including myself... well there was the alcohol one of my groomsmen brought in his hip flask, but then again he spent the prep time right before the wedding behind the church getting as high as a kite (I can't make this stuff up people)

But we did punch as well, as my wife's grandparents still, as in to this very day, send their yearly checks to the prohibition party. It just wasn't worth that battle, as we had already fought a battle over EVERYTHING else.

We married at 21 and 23, not quite as young, but young at todays standards.

That is a great picture! You do look young, but confident (and straight out of the 1980s). Congratulations on your upcoming anniversary.

You're a beautiful team.

We celebrated out twentieth this year, too, and were high school sweethearts. I was an old woman of 20 and my dh was 19. Our oldest is 19 and I would not be disappointed if she marries young if she chooses well.
