Walking The Mom

I've been trying to get more regular at walking, but have been feeling like I need someone to physically pick me up and shove me out the door to accomplish this. (I'm so mature like that.) I realized after some thought that I have 7 kids able AND willing to nag me. Assign each of them one day a week to take mom for a walk, and hey, we have ourselves a walking program. And a chance to talk to each one individually, which is a precious thing in a busy house like ours.

First walk was last night. Got a mile in at a slow amble, it being 89 degrees and all. But, hey, my 8 year old and I we were moving. And chatting. And having fun. Tonight is the almost 12-year-old's turn. I think we'll walk a little later in the evening in hopes it will be a bit cooler. This has the feel of something that just might work.

Oh Mary, that is so cute!
Hey now, if your up to it, I'd love to take you on a walk too, can I have a turn?! I'll be ready for walking when I get back. I've been using the trails around here and it feels so good to walk.
Chris said it's a scorchin' there.
We had two really hot and humid days here, then a thunder storm last night which sent it away.
Congrats on the motivation, whatever it takes. You can do it!

I sent the hubby with the 4 kiddles to go for a walk last night before bed, I thought it would tire them out while I got some serious one on one time with the computer, but nah! they were wide awake cause of all the fresh air! We like to walk too, it's good to enjoy as much of this good weather as we can for soon... winter will be here again - good 'ole Canadian snow!! ;-)

Great idea. If I have my bigger kids take two days, and my 4-year-old take one, I could actually keep a pretty good pace most of the time and enjoy one on one time with a kiddo everyday! I like it!!!

What a wonderful idea, and a great way to get in individual time with each child.

Good for you! Kids are the best health policemen. When I went off Diet Coke a year ago, they kept me honest and even now look for Nutrasweet in everything we buy. It's 104 here so our walks have really suffered and I miss them. Somehow a walk in the mall is just not the same as in the neighborhood!

I'm mature like that, too - I figure I could exercise regularily only if threatened with physical harm.

That is such a great idea! Gets you moving and allows you to bond with your children. Love it!

That is such a brilliant idea. It's nice to have that one on one time with each kid and now you get a little exercise too!

Ingenious idea! Each kid will so look forward to his or her walk with Mom, there'll be no getting out of it. You're killing two birds with one stone here .. exercise for you and one-on-one time with your kids. Great idea.

Exercise and one-on-one time with the kiddos--what could be better?! :-)

Mary, Mary, tell me you're not complaining about 89 degrees? It is 4,000 degrees in Oklahoma--we actually fried an egg on the sidewalk this weekend!

Mary
